Color testing on a parametric bench

Modern Bench with a Sunset Twist
This flowing concrete bench pushes the boundaries of 3D printing - combining technical precision with a spontaneous color gradient. Printed in one continuous path, the design explores soft, organic curves made possible by robotic fabrication.
Unexpected Color, Unmistakable Charm
The bench was produced during a day of pigment testing, resulting in a warm gradient of amber and yellow tones. These layered stripes give the piece its unique “sunset” effect, adding character and warmth to an otherwise minimal shape. It’s a perfect example of how process and design can intersect in unexpected ways.

Where Form Meets Fabrication
With no joints or seams, the bench highlights the possibilities of concrete as a sculptural material. Its undulating profile offers both structure and softness—blurring the lines between furniture and architectural object.
Internship
This project was developed during an internship at Vertico by Mário Pelka, a PhD candidate from Slovakia with a focus on furniture design. We’re proud to support young designers and researchers through our internship program.
