Reimagining Concrete Design: Vertico at Dutch Design Week 2019

In 2019, Vertico presented an installation of three 3D printed concrete columns at Dutch Design Week. Each column stood 3 meters tall and weighed 300 kilograms.
As Europe's largest design event, Dutch Design Week was the right place to show how 3D concrete printing is changing modern design and architecture.
Project highlights
- Form: The columns showed Vertico's ability to print intricate, flowing shapes, with concrete used as a medium for artistic expression as well as a structural material.
- Less waste: Printing without traditional molds significantly reduced waste, in line with Vertico's focus on responsible design.
- Collaboration: The installation was a joint effort with the Department of Architecture at Eindhoven University of Technology, part of Vertico's wider work with universities and research groups.
At the exhibition
Visitors could explore the columns up close, which led to conversations about how technology-driven design can reshape the built environment.
The aim went beyond showing the technology. It was to encourage a new way of thinking about materials, design and sustainability in architecture and design.
Vertico returned to the event in later years, including Dutch Design Week 2021 and Dutch Design Week 2022.
