Innovative play: 3D printed sandbox bench debuts in Delft
Vertico has printed a curved concrete bench of more than 20 meters for a toddler play area in Tanthof, Delft. The bench serves as both seating and edging for a large water and sand play pit.
The project was a summer collaboration with Kinderboerderij & Waterspeeltuin Tanthof, landscape architect Bureau RIS (Ruimtelijke Inrichting Speelnatuur, Gouda) and MultiTuin en Landschap.
What makes the design special
Seating for every age
3D printing allowed us to design and produce varied seat heights, so the bench is comfortable for everyone from children to grandparents. Unlike conventional molding, this choice added no extra cost.
75% less material
The bench is printed hollow, which cut material use by 75%. That makes it a more sustainable addition to the playground.
No formwork
No formwork was used to make the bench, so none was wasted. This part of the production process is often overlooked.
